Avengers: Endgame Recap

In phase three of the MCU, we watched our favorite genius, billionaire, playboy, và philanthropist known as Iron Man finally get his happy ending. Up until then, we saw Tony Stark creating his own demons, entertaining women, and allowing his empire, Stark Industries, to place weapons into wrong hands. Iron Man’s film trilogy from MCU phases one và two left us wondering if the greater good would ever outweigh Stark’s own self interests.

When half of the universe was blipped from existence inAvengers: Infinity War, Tony Stark was spared và seemed to lớn finally turn over a new leaf. He left his troubled past behind. More importantly, he dedicated his life lớn his on-again-off-again love và CEO of Stark Industries, Virginia “Pepper” Potts.

While Earth slowly recovered from losing half of all life in the battle against the omnipotent Thanos, Tony and Pepper married & resided in a beautiful lakeside cabin. There, they raised their daughter Morgan, named after Pepper’s eccentric uncle. When we first meet Morgan, she’s nearly five years old and already has the charismatic spunk of her father. Not to lớn mention, she’s absolutely adorable.

Back inAvengers: Infinity War, we watched Tony Stark thua his protégé Spider-Man to lớn Thanos’ snap. Undoubtedly, this left Tony reevaluating his priorities. Flash forward five years toAvengers: Endgame, we see a compassionate, fatherly side of Tony Stark that we’ve never seen before. Morgan and Pepper are now his whole world. So much so, that when the Avengers return to recruit the help of Iron Man in their attempt at a time heist to bring half the universe back, Tony refuses. He finally has his second chance at life và is firmly unwilling khổng lồ roll the dice on it.

So, what does “I love you 3000” mean?

Later that evening, Tony tucks Morgan into bed, kisses her on the forehead, và says “I love you tons”. Morgan replies with her sweet line, “I love you 3000”. He chuckles and, in true Tony Stark fashion, immediately boasts khổng lồ Pepper that Morgan loves him 3000. Meanwhile Pepper, according to Tony, is somewhere in the 600-900 range.

It’s worth noting that one ton is exactly 2000 pounds. Whether little Morgan realized it or not, she inherited her father’s seemingly effortless intelligence. The little genius literally loves him more than a “ton”.

The plot thickens after Tony’s innocent tinkering leads him to lớn successfully figure out how khổng lồ navigate time. With his apprehensive help, the Avengers go back in time và are able to lớn bring back the billions of lives lost in the blip, along with a past Thanos fueled with revenge. In the final battle, Stark is faced with the ultimate choice. To lớn our utter shock, his own self interests are finally outweighed by the greater good of the universe.

Phase one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with the very first Iron Man film. Phase three appropriately ended with Tony Stark making the ultimate sacrifice. Our heartbreak, however, didn’t end there.

We find out that before going back in time, Tony left a hologram message lớn playback in the case of his untimely death. With tears already in our eyes, we see a hologram of him assuring those watching, including his grieving wife and daughter, that everything would work out exactly the way it’s supposed to. He then bends down khổng lồ reach the eye cấp độ of Morgan & utters the now bittersweet line… “I love you 3000”.
